Despite the intensification of international trade frictions and the cancellation of copper export tax rebates in early December last year, China still achieved copper exports of 828000 tons in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 22.1%, with a net export of 463000 tons, reaching a new historical high. The third is the continuous empowerment of technological innovation. Six achievements, including the preparation and application of ultrafine grained ultra-low oxygen, high uniformity oxygen free copper materials, won the first prize of the 2024 China Nonferrous Metals Industry Science and Technology Award. New products such as ultra-thin copper alloy strip foil, copper silver plated high-speed connecting copper cable, high-purity copper target material, copper graphene composite material, 1000V or above electromagnetic wire, high wear-resistant lead tin bronze, and high-temperature resistant copper chromium niobium alloy continue to break through and are applied in emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, commercial aerospace, semiconductors, and low altitude economy. Fan Shunke said that the achievements are hard won and we need to work harder in the future. The current US tariff policy is accelerating the evolution of the world's century long changes, leading to the rapid restructuring of global industrial and supply chains, and an increase in uncertain and unpredictable factors. At the same time, the foundation for the domestic economic recovery is not yet stable, and copper processing is also facing challenges such as insufficient independent innovation, industry competition, and difficulties in production and operation for some enterprises. In this regard, the entire industry should not only face difficulties and challenges, but also have firm confidence in development: firstly, copper is widely used. Copper is the second largest non-ferrous metal in terms of usage, second only to aluminum. It is not only an important basic material for national defense technology industry and strategic emerging industries, but also an important carrier for meeting people's needs for a better life. In recent years, the production of copper processing materials in China has been continuously increasing, and although there has been differentiation in segmented varieties, the total amount has not yet reached a turning point. The second is that emerging applications have a promising future. "New Three Kinds" has become an important engine to drive copper consumption. Emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, robots, low altitude economy, satellite Internet will not only put forward higher performance requirements for copper products, but also further enrich the application scenarios of copper products. Liu Xinhua, Vice Dean of the Institute of New Materials Technology at Beijing University of Science and Technology, delivered a report on "Green Intelligent Processing of High Performance Copper Alloys". The report points out that the self-sufficiency rate of high-end integrated circuit lead frame products in China is low, and high-end products rely on imports, facing challenges such as foreign patent blockades. The team has researched the integration of composition, organizational structure, and process, new methods for intelligent design, and new technologies for short process intelligent manufacturing. They have constructed a specialized database for copper alloys and developed an MLDS design system, achieving independent design of high-end copper alloys and improving their performance; Proposed a method for microstructure design and precise control throughout the entire process of solidification deformation heat treatment, breaking through the strength conductivity inversion relationship; Invented new technologies such as hot cold combined casting and horizontal continuous casting, shortening the process flow, reducing costs, and achieving green production.

Mo Yongda, a first-class researcher at the China Aluminum Science and Technology Research Institute and director of the Strategic Emerging Materials Innovation Center, gave a report on the development trend and prospects of copper processing technology. The report points out that in the past 20 years, China's copper processing industry has resonated with global industrial development. China has made breakthroughs in the research and development of new generation copper based materials, and some products and technologies have shifted from tracking and imitation to independent research and development. China has also become the world's largest producer and consumer of copper processing materials. In terms of research and development, the development direction of high-end copper based materials mainly includes six aspects: structural and functional integration, material and device integration, etc; In terms of product development, the variety of copper processing products has doubled in the past 20 years and gradually developed towards high-end, functional, and customized directions; In terms of technological achievements, breakthroughs have been made in new copper processing technologies, and special preparation technologies such as additive manufacturing have been industrialized or are in the research and development stage. At the same time, production equipment also presents features of precision, intelligence, and low carbonization, and the new generation of equipment supports the leapfrog development of strategic products.

On the afternoon of June 9th, the conference also held a training course on copper processing risk management futures for 2025. Fan Shunke, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and Chairman of China Nonferrous Metals Processing Industry Association, and Wen Yue, representative of the management team of Copper Crown Jinyuan Futures Co., Ltd., delivered speeches at the training course.
